Provenance and history |
The place of production and the original owner of the manuscript are unknown. The text mentions King Śahlä Maryam (ff. 24v, 25v) and King Mǝnelǝk (f. 25r): this indicates that the codex was produced between 1878, the year in which Mǝnilǝk II (whose baptismal name was Śahlä Maryam) proclaimed himself nǝguś of Šäwa, and 1913, the year of his death. The codex came to Italy under unknown circumstances and was acquired by the Biblioteca Palatina from Studio Bibliografico “La Nave” in Udine in the 1990s. |
